Abstract
Measurements of the angular distributions and energies of the charged products of the dissociativecharge exchange collision between helium ions and carbon dioxide have been made over the range of incident ion energies 100–500 eV. The angular distributions in the laboratory system show two maxima. The average energy of the ions corresponding to the two maxima differ by a significant amount. The data can be explained in terms of two different dissociativecharge exchange mechanisms and there is evidence that certain orientations of the carbon dioxide molecule with respect to the helium ion beam are favored in the charge exchange process. Keywords
