CHLOROPHYLLS OF GREEN PHOTOSYNTHETIC BACTERIA1

Abstract
Crude Chlorobium chlorophyll (650) is composed of six different pigments, all of which are derived from 2-desvinyl-2-α-hydroxyethyl-pyropheophorbide a. Crude Chlorobium chlorophyll (660) is composed of seven different pigments derived from the δ-methyl derivative of the above compound. Both classes of chlorophylls contain farnesol as the esterifying alcohol. Each class of chlorophyll is accompanied by a small amount of bacteriochlorophyll.
