Abstract
A theoretical analysis is made of the process of writing volume holograms on photodichroic materials. The real form of the recorded diffraction gratings at large exposures is found. Expressions are derived for the diffraction efficiency of transmission and reflection gratings for the case of pure amplitude recording and the results of some numerical calculations are presented. Maximum diffraction efficiencies for different parameters of the recording medium are determined. Keywords
