A TEST FOR ANTI-ANDROGENS

Abstract
A test for anti-androgenic activity of steroid and non-steroid compounds is suggested. The method consists in the stimulation of the chick''s comb by orally administered testosterone and administering the test material either by direct inunction or by subcutaneous injection. The progestationally active steroids progesterone, 17-ethynyl-19-nortestosterone and 17 -ethynyltestosterone exhibited the most consistent anti-androgenic activity. Certain corticoids, estradiol-17 beta, benzpyrene, and methylcholanthrene were active as anti-androgens under the conditions of the test.
