Abstract
An approximate analytic expression for the time-dependent density profile formed by a turbulent buoyant plume in a confined region is presented. The analysis is based on the approximation that the density of the fluid behind the first front changes at a rate which is virtually independent of position. The approximate expression is shown to be in excellent agreement with a full numerical integration of the governing equations. Keywords
