Precise Zone of Localization of Anti-Kidney Antibody in Various Organs.

Abstract

Rats weighing approximately 150-200 g were injected intravenously with either pooled normal rabbit serum or rabbit anti-rat kidney serum and the various organs assayed for fixed rabbit globulin with a fluorescein labelled horse anti-rabbit conjugate. Kidney, adrenal, ovary, and spleen showed structures on which localization occurred to a high degree, thyroid, lymph node, and liver showed localization, but of lower concentration, while testes, lung, skin, brain, and heart showed no staining. Localization of these antibodies in vivo is quite different from that observed by treating tissue section in vitro with the antibody. In the latter case, many more structures are stained.
