Abstract
This paper attempts to investigate the variation of the radius of the main phase of the return stroke with time. From the knowledge of the conductivity of the stepped leader in the immediate neighbourhood of the positively charged return stroke tip, the radius of the upgoing return stroke has been computed and it is found to increase with time until it reaches within the cloud. Keywords
