A Perfusion Procedure (Perf-O-Suction) for Recovery of Schistosome Worms

Abstract
An improved perfusion technique which permits rapid collection of adult schistosomes from mice and hamsters is described. Innovations to the basic procedure consist of (1) a special autopsy board, (2) an automatic pipetting machine, and (3) a suction apparatus. Saline forced through the portal veins of infected animals dislodges 98% of the worms present in mice and 84% in hamsters.
