Abstract
At its meeting on April 16, 1972, the Council of the American Geophysical Union approved for presentation to the membership amended Statutes and Bylaws. The amended Statutes and Bylaws include substantial revisions that reflect the requirements of the Union as an independent corporate entity; these changes form a necessary prelude to incorporation in the District of Columbia. The question of approval for the amendments to the Statutes has been presented to the memberhship in a mail ballot. The proposed amended Statutes and Bylaws were published in the May 1972 EOS. The Preamble has been rewritten to reflect the impending new corporate status and to highlight the cooperative efforts of the Union with other national and international scientific organizations.
