Multiple Sclerosis and the Ingelfinger Rule

Abstract

This issue of the Journal includes two articles^{1 , 2} and an editorial³ concerning new approaches to the treatment of multiple sclerosis. The events surrounding the publication of the paper by Dr. Fischer and his colleagues are worthy of comment here. Even before this paper was submitted to us, both the authors and the Journal's editors began to receive pressure from a number of sources to publish the manuscript rapidly and to release the details of the study to the news media.
