THE CONVERSION OF Δ4-ANDROSTENE-3,17-DIONE-4-C14 AND DEHYDROEPIANDROSTERONE BY BOVINE ADRENAL HOMOGENATE PREPARATIONS

Abstract
[DELTA] 4-Androstene-3,17-dione (II), adrenosterone (III), 11[beta]-hydroxyandrostenedione (IV) and compound VI were isolated after incubation of dehydroepiandrosterone with a bovine adrenal homogenate preparation. Under similar conditions, incubation of androsteredoine-4-C14 led to isolation of III, IV, 6[beta]-hydroxyandrostenedione, compound VI, and a compound tentatively identified as 6[alpha], 11[beta]-dihydroxyandrostenedione. All these products had the same radioactivity, calculated on a molar basis, as the starting material. The presence of 6[alpha]-hydroxyandrostenedione was deduced from infrared spectroscopic data. The formation of many more transformation products in trace quantities was evident from papergram analyses.
