Abstract
This review examines the role of groups in the organization. Recent literature is discussed through a heuristic model of group behavior. Group structure, strategies, leadership, and reward allocation to members are viewed as inputs to the model. Outcomes are defined as group performance, quality of work lifefor group members, and ability to work independently in the future. A number of group process variables are seen as significant in this model. Implications of the current literature are offeredfor practitioners and researchers. Keywords
