Idiopathic Hypertrophy of the Interventricular Septum Causing Muscular Subaortic Stenosis in Children

Abstract
The clinical, electrocardiographic, hemodynamic, and angiocardiographic findings in 5 cases of idiopathic ventricular septal hypertrophy in the pediatric age group are presented. The septal hypertrophy results in an obstruction to the outflow tract of the ventricles during systolic emptying, and diastolic filling may also be impaired as a result of diminished ventricular compliance. The obstruction to the outflow tract of the ventricles can be demonstrated by angiocardiography, and it is suggested that it may be possible to estimate the degree of septal involvement by this method of investigation.
