Abstract

Rat, mouse and rabbit muscle and mouse and rat tumors (C 63, S 37, Crocker 180, Mai. sarcoma, R. 10 and Jensen rat sarcoma) contained lactic dehydrogenase similar to that found in heart muscle. Rabbit muscle extract did not contain xanthine oxidase or adenine nucleosidase but rat and mouse muscle exts. contained both these enzymes. All the rat and mouse tumor exts. examined contained xanthineoxidase and attacked adenylpyrophosphate or lactic dehydrogenase coenzyme rapidly. The rate at which the adenine deriva-tives were attacked varied with different tumour strains.
