ON THE THROMBOPENIA OF ANAPHYLACTIC AND PEPTONE SHOCK

Abstract
A marked and sud-den drop in the circulating platelets occurs in both peptone and anaphylactic shock. A clumping of platelets is observed prior to their disappearance, thus suggesting that agglutination accounts for their removal. Large doses of heparin do not prevent this decrease of platelets, nor does hypocoagulabil-ity of the blood induced by dicumarol inhibit the disappear-ance of platelets. Splenectomy has no effect on the thrombopenia of peptone shock. The platelet count is not influenced by the intraven. injn. of histamine.
