Abstract
Angle-resolved photo-emission experiments with synchrotron radiation on a surface phase that was previously determined to be a surface alloy (Cu(001)c(2*2)-Au) are described. Changes in the valence band of the Cu substrate upon formation of the surface alloy are identified. The Au-induced d bands and their dispersion relations are determined. Keywords
