Abstract
A simple model consisting of three simultaneous rate equations is proposed to account for the conversion of infrared excitation to visible emission by LiY0.799Yb0.2Ho0.001F4. All of the parameters appearing in the equations are measured. The time development of the luminescence and the conversion efficiency are calculated and found to be in reasonable agreement with the measurements. Keywords
