Insecticides to Control Bollworm, Boll Weevil, Cotton Aphid, and Cotton Flea Hopper

Abstract
Basic Cu arsenate mixed with sulfur or lime produced higher yields of cotton than Ca arsenate, Pb arsenate, or cryolite in expts. at Waco, Texas for the control of the bollworm and the boll weevil, and higher yields than sulfur or sulfur-arsenical mixtures in expts. for the control of the flea hopper. The increase in aphids following dusting with basic Cu arsenate and sulfur was less than half as great as that following dusting with Ca arsenate or Zn-safened Ca arsenate. In an expt. in which 8 effective dust applications were made there were 3.6 times as many aphids on the cotton dusted with Ca arsenate plus 0.5% of rotenone as on the cotton treated with Ca arsenate plus 1% of nicotine. Ca arsenate containing ZnSO4 did not show much promise in holding down aphids.
