Anticonvulsant and psychotropic action of Tegretol®

Abstract
Tegretol, although shown to have anticonvulsant and psychotropic properties in over 4,000 patients reported in the literature, is a very dangerous drug and should only be used under careful supervision. It certainly should not be used routinely to replace any of the standard drugs now in use, but only as an adjutant. In this series of 26 patients, it was well tolerated with only minor side effects and was useful in patients with seizures not controlled by other medications.
