Abstract
The association of polycythemia (rubra vera) with intracranial neoplasm is an event of the greatest rarity. Two cases are reported of a well marked polycythemia in which the red blood cell count returned to normal following the surgical extirpation of subtentorial tumors. In each case the neoplasm was a hemangioblastoma. In the first case, the blood volume was reduced from 7 125 ml. before operation to 5 124 ml. after operation. Both cases have been followed for 8 mos. or more without reappearance of the polycythemia. The mechanism of neurogenic polycythemia is discussed. Keywords
