THE EFFECT OF EDTA AND ITS ANALOGUES ON GLYCERINATED MUSCLE FIBERS AND MYOSIN ADENOSINETRIPHOSPHATASE*

Abstract
Relaxation, ATPase activity, and fiber elongation by pyrophosphate were determined upon the addition of EDTA, nitrilo-triacetate,l,2-cyclohexanediamineteraacetate, ethyl-EDTA, glycol-EDTA, diethylenetriaminopentaacetate, and hydroxy-EDTA. No significant correlation is observed between Ca++ or Mg++ chelating power and the effects of those EDTA derivatives on the above 3 properties of muscle fibers.
