Abstract
A scintillation counter for detection of 1131 uptake in the thyroid gland was constructed and descr. Improvement over the conventional Geiger counter and scaler set-up as previously used was achieved by a factor of 30[long dash]50 in sensitivity. A 6-week period of clinical use of this counter is compared with the use of the Geiger counter. A discussion of the response of various phosphors to the gamma rays of I131 is included along with a descr. of the equipment employed.
