Solitons as Newtonian particles

Abstract

The effect of external electromagnetic fields on nonrelativistic solitons is studied. Although the solitons are distorted by external fields, they still exhibit a Newtonian behavior. We give explicit examples of such a phenomenon, presenting solutions that exhibit Newtonian behavior for simple external fields.
