Chronic Orbital Myositis

Abstract
• Chronic orbital myositis, an uncommon granulomatous inflammatory disease of the extraocular muscles of unknown origin, occurred in a 15-year-old boy. Fifteen patients with this disorder have been seen at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn. Its characteristics include ophthalmoplegia, ocular pain, histologic and ultrasonographic evidence of inflammation of extraocular muscles, sensitivity to prednisone, remission and exacerbation, and recurrence.
