Abstract
Excitation cross sections for protons incident on atomic hydrogen are calculated by a nonadiabatic method. This consists of expanding the wave function in the spherical harmonics of the target, giving rise to an infinite set of coupled two-dimensional equations. These are solved numerically in the approximation which retains only and states of the target.
