Abstract
Electron beam oscillators are placed in one of two groups depending on whether or not they employ resonant energy‐extractors. A natural upper frequency limit exists for the group which does. This limit depends chiefly on the ac beam current density and the noise level in the resonant structure. For practical values of these parameters, the maximum frequency is below the range of visible light. Keywords
