Abstract
Results of a study of a number of variables related to the transmission of viral hepatitis have been presented. Information was obtained from persons considered to have had "infectious" hepatitis and persons in a matched control group. A significant relationship between prior tissue-penetrations by physicians and the ensuing disease was observed. The findings point to tissue-penetrations as a direct means of inoculation of viral hepatitis. The pool of infection which resides in tissue-penetrating equipment may be a source of hepatitis to a much greater extent than previously realized.
