Abstract
Heterotopic ossification (HO) is an intriguing and fascinating phenomenon; a highly differentiated tissue forms at a location where bone was not meant to be. No other specialized tissue can do this. This capacity is probably related to the ability of bone to regenerate completely after injury. HO may occur in different conditions, but it is commonest in muscle and soft tissues following surgical trauma, especially total hip arthroplasty. This publication has 27 references indexed in Scilit:
