Abstract
The plasma levels and urinary excretion rates of 32 amino acids and related compounds were measured in 4 fasting premature infants and 3 full-term infants. Values for renal clearance and renal tubular reabsorption were calculated for 21 of these and compared with the figures for 3 adults. The main patterns of renal tubular conservation of amino acids were discussed in relation to pre-renal factors, to known common reabsorp-tive pathways and to structural relations. Keywords
