Abstract
Microwave spectra of the following isotopic species of nitrosyl bromide have been measured and assigned : 14N16O79Br, 14N16O81Br, 15N16O79Br and 15N16O81Br. Rotational constants are reported and have been used to evaluate the structure in a number of ways. The following structure is reported: rN–Br= 2.140±0.002 Å, rN–O= 1.146±0.010 Å and ∠ONBr = 114° 30′±30′ From the hyperfine structure of the spectra, bromine nuclear quadrupole coupling coefficients have been obtained for the four isotopic species. The coupling parameters have been interpreted in terms of bond properties and a close comparison can be made with nitrosyl chloride.
