Abstract
The injection of 10-22 cc of 2% mephenesin into the lumbar cistern of 6 spastic paraplegic males resulted in the immediate abolition of spontaneous and induced flexor movements and deep tendon reflexes. Residual voluntary motility and sensory functions were also reduced. All these functions returned to a limited degree in 90-120 minutes after the injection but there was residual depression of these functions for 3-5 days after the injection. Adhesive arachnoiditis developed after repeated injections in 3 patients. Keywords
