Abstract
Sudden death occurred in a patient considered to have a myocardial infarction. Detailed microscopic examination revealed a focal necrotizing myocarditis without interstitial infiltration. The original connective tissue framework without collagen in many of the areas where muscle fibers disappeared precludes the term myocardial fibrosis. A pathologic classification is suggested. No adequate etiologic agent could be found. Keywords
