Abstract
A method was devised for the estimation as acetone of the individual ketone bodies[long dash]acetone, acetoacetic acid, beta-hydroxybutyric acid and isopropanol[long dash]within the range 0-120 mg. acetone/100 ml. The basis of the method is the diffusion of acetone into an alkaline soln. of salicylic aldehyde with the production of an orange-red color, the intensity of which is measured in a photoelectric colorimeter. The application of the method to biological materials such as blood, milk, urine and rumen liquor is described. Keywords
