Immunochemical Studies of Human Serum Fractionated by Gel Filtration with Sephadex G-200

Abstract
Summary Three human sera were fractionated by gel filtration with Sephadex G-200. The distributions of 19 serum proteins or serum protein activities were studied by immunoelectrophoresis, double gel diffusion with specific antisera and specific characterization reactions. The serum proteins were separated into 3 major peaks and eluted in order essentially depending on their molecular size. The first peak contained theα2M and β2M macroglobulins, haptoglobin and lipo-proteins. The second peak contained mostly γ-globulins and third peak consisted primarily of albumin. We are especially indebted to Dr. Jose Uriel for assistance with immunoelectrophoretic analyses and to Dr. Baruch S. Blumberg and his associates for determining the types of haptoglobins in our sera.
