A BALANCE STUDY OF METHYLANDROSTENEDIOL IN A PATIENT WITH HYPOGONADISM

Abstract
A balance study is reported in a patient with hypogonadism who was treated with 75 mg. of methylandrostenediol (microcrystalline suspension) daily during 12 days. Under the influence of the drug a retention of N (equivalent to 1320 g. of muscle protoplasm), K and P was observed. No effect on the Na balance was found. The actual P retention was 590 mg. in excess of the theoretical P retention, as calculated from the N balance. During the expt., a definite creatinuria was observed. No effect on the urinary excretion of creatinine or 17-ketosteroids was seen. A discrepancy was found between the actual and the theoretical wt. curves, indicating that water was retained. The clinical condition of the patient during the expt. was excellent. No sign of a masculinizing effect of methylandrostenediol was observed.
