Abstract
The influence of ionic excitation on heavy-ion charge-changing collisions has been studied by measuring cross sections for electron capture and loss as a function of target-gas density. The results show a decreased probability for electron capture rather than the increased probability for electron loss predicted by Bohr and Lindhard. Keywords
