Abstract
The magnetic anisotropy energy of interdiffused superstructures of (FePt) and of (CoPt) on Pt(100) and Pt(111) is calculated in terms of the spin-polarized relativistic screened Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker method. It is shown that interdiffusion between Pt and the magnetic metal or, oppositely, ordering into a superstructure, very strongly influences the size of the perpendicular magnetism to be expected.
