The Use of Standard Films in the Radiological Diagnosis of Coalworkers' Pneumoconiosis

Abstract
An expt. was designed to test the value of "standard films" in the quantitative classification of radiographs of simple pneumoconiosis of coal workers, the standard films being examples of the limits of the categories and use in side-by-side comparison with films to be classified. Standard films enabled inexperienced observers to use a radiographic classification with an accuracy approaching that of the more experienced observer. Routine work films should be read by at least 2 observers on 2 independent occasions. The films on which the 2 opinions differ should be given a 3d and deciding reading.
