Abstract
Recent conclusions of Phillips on the excitation of I2 by N2(A3Σu+) formed as a product of iodine-catalyzed atomic nitrogen recombination are criticized. Spectroscopic experiments are performed which indicate that [N2(A3Σu+)] < 109 molecules/cm3 which is ≈ 10−5 of that implied by Phillips.Keywords
