Nonlocal Damping of Helicon Waves

Abstract
Nonlocal damping of a helicon wave propagating at an angle to a static magnetic field is analyzed. It is shown that in metals such damping is primarily caused by transit-time effects rather than by "Landau damping." An expression for the damping is derived for all values of the electron mean free path, provided the helicon wavelength is much longer than the cyclotron radius.
