Lactose-Free Milk as a Solution of Problems Associated with Dietetic Treatment of Lactose Intolerance

Abstract
In milk intolerance due to lactose intolerance a lactose-free diet is used from which milk and milk products are eliminated. This is associated with a number of serious nutritional and dietetic problems, which could be solved by using lactose-free milk products. The authors tested the tolerance of the powdered practically lactose-free product of milk, Lida-Lac, in subjects with lactose intolerance. They found a satisfactory tolerance, as compared with ordinary lactose-containing dried milk. The preparation proved a useful milk substitute in the preparation of foods. From the results ensues that the lactose-free milk product, Lida-Lac, can replace milk practically completely in a lactose-free diet. Thus the variety of the diet is improved and the protein and calcium content of the lactose-free diet is increased.
