Abstract
The enzymes malate synthetase and isocitritase have been shown to be present in cell-free extracts of germinating spores of Penicillium oxalicum. The enzymes were found in spores germinated either in glucose or acetate, although the enzyme concentrations were higher in the acetate-germinated spores. Glucose is thought to inhibit the induction of the glyoxylate-cycle enzymes. Therefore, these data suggest that in germinating spores of P. oxalicum the glyoxylate-pathway enzymes may be constitutive rather than adaptive.
