Halberg Tonometer

Abstract

The Halberg tonometer, a portable, gravitational, optical, direct-reading applanation tonometer, based on the Maklakoff principle, has been evaluated. Comparative studies were performed with the Goldmann, Draeger, and Filatov-Kalfa instruments. The Halberg tonometer compared favorably to the Goldmann type and the Maklakoff type instruments, when both simple and differential tonometry were practiced. General principles of evaluation of a tonometer are discussed. The data obtained are subjected to mathematical treatment and statistical analysis. The study validates the Halberg tonometer as a reliable clinical instrument.
