Respiration of the Pea Plant. Metabolism of Hexose Phosphate and Triose Phosphate by Cell-free Extracts of Pea Roots

Abstract
Extracts of 12-15 day pea roots possess the following dehydrogenases: glucose-6-phos-phate, 6-phosphogluconate, triose phosphate and alcohol. They also possess phosphohexose isomerase, fructose 1,6-diphos-phatase, aldolase and an acid phosphatase. The individual enzymes of the pea root appear to have the same characteristics as those of the leaves with one exception; the root triose phosphate dehydrogenase is diphosphopyridine nucleotide specific.
