Abstract
Clinical features, duration and treatment, predisposing factors, epidemiology, are discussed. Infective hepatitis is a major medical problem, there are no specific measures for prophylaxis or treatment, but the mortality is fortunately low. Orthodox opinion is that the virus is spread by droplet infection, but a considerable body of opinion favours spread by excreta and flies. Information on the disease might be obtained from carefully planned human transmission studies.
