PELVIC EXENTERATION COMBINED WITH RESECTION OF SEGMENTS OF BONY PELVIS

Abstract
1. 1. A series of 28 patients who have undergone pelvic exenteration, either total or partial, together with segments of bony pelvic girdle extending to hemipelvectomy are reviewed. 2. 2. Eight patients did not leave the hospital alive up to 52 days following operation. Sixteen patients lived an average of 12 months after operation (extremes 4 and 36 months, respectively); most, but not all, died of cancer. Four patients lived 5 or more years following operation (14.8 percent); 2 eventually died of cancer and 2 are living at this time (12 and 17 years, respectively) free from cancer (one had a hemipelvectomy).
