Abstract
Electrocardiograms were obtained from conscious dogs before and on the four days after acute ligation of a branch of the left coronary artery. The intravenous injection of propranolol did not abolish the arrhythmias present 24 hr. after ligation, but reduced or abolished the exaggerated ectopic response to adrenaline on the second to fourth days after ligation. This effect resulted from blockade of adrenergic β-receptors in the myocardium.
