Abstract
The electrostatic potential field has been calculated numerically near the ends of the electrostatic cylindrical mirror analyzer. The effects of various guard ring configurations on the field distortion are calculated. The trajectories of electrons passing through the guarded and unguarded fields are calculated, and it is shown how field distortions influence the focusing properties of the analyzer. A coincidence spectrometer is proposed, based on the action of guard rings upon the fringing field. Keywords
