The direct colorimetric estimation of reducing sugars and other reducing substances with tetrazolium salts

Abstract
Conditions for optimal production of formazan by the reaction between triphenyltetrazolium bromide and various reducing agents were established. Triphenylformazan was prepared and its absorption and solubility characteristics determined. Direct colorimetric methods for the estimation of blood sugar, glucose, lactose, cysteine and ascorbic acid based on the use of tetrazolium are described.
