TRANSPLANTATION OF PACINIAN BODIES IN THE BRAIN AND THIGH OF THE CAT

Abstract
Autografts of Pacinian bodies from the cat''s mesentery were introduced into the brain and into skeletal muscle. The grafts survived and retained their elaborate structure without re-innervation for more than 400 days. It was concluded that trophic influence of nerve fibers is not essential to the survival of the non-nervous constituents of end organs and that no special attraction is exerted by denervated end organs on regenerating nerve fibers. The brain tissue does not attempt re-inner-vation of implanted sensory end organs.
